Vivekananda College was established in 10th February 1978 with 150 pupils and four teachers in a thatched roof structure under the principal Mr.V.Thangavel. This schools came into being due to the years long perseverance and commitment form Mr.K.Velupillai, a well-wisher and philanthropist form Trincomalee.
The Orr’s Hill Village Development Society was established by the people of Orr’s Hill. In it’s dream as it’s first stage of work arranged the construction of the school building called “Uvar Malai Tamil School” (Orr’s Hill Tamil School). The inauguration ceremony of this school was held on 10.02.1978.The school building ceremonially opened by HON.R.SAMPANTHAN M.P, Trincomalee.
Mr.Sherif, Former Chief Education officer who participated at the inaugural ceremony recorded the following in the V.I.P Register. "Principal Mr.A.Thangavel, who has the respect among parents, responsible for there devotion along with the enthusiastic teachers.
